Gordon Newell was not only a brilliant sculptor, but a great man, full of a richness of mind and a compassionate spirit that was expressed in everything that he did, both as an artist and as a friend to those around him.
My father's best friend, his memory is a current throughout my life. He came to be as much family as friend to me, and certainly also a model of creative strength and great heart.
He was a rare gem.
